OBITUARY:  GREG GARVAN

Sadly, Greg Garvan  passed away peacefully at his home on January 9, 2013.  Greg was a wonderful ambassador to polo, and an all round great guy.  Over the years Greg has helped so many Canadian polo players with his sound advice and encouraging and positive attitude.  Greg will be sadly missed.

EXECUTIVE UPDATE:  November 14, 2012

As the newly elected President of The Canadian Polo Association, I would like to extend a warm welcome, and thank you, to the new directors and executive of Polo Canada elected at the Annual General Meeting on October 25, 2012, especially to our newly elected directors, Frederick Mannix Jr. (Calgary Polo Club), King Ward Jr (Toronto Polo Club) and Marcelo Abbiati (Calgary Polo Club).  Dave Offen (Toronto Polo Club) continues as Vice President, Gerald Levin (Royal Winnipeg Polo Club) as treasurer, and Cliff Sifton (Toronto Polo Club) as Secretary.  Karen White is the Executive Assistant and Administrator for Polo Canada.

The Board is working on a number of new initiatives.  In January, Polo Canada will be sending a 16-goal Canadian team to China to compete in an international snow polo tournament.  We are working on organizing an east-west exchange for junior players in the summer of 2013.  We will be updating and enhancing the Polo Canada website, and we are working on enhancing our technical support for polo clubs across the country through clinics and increased resources.

Your Board of Directors is committed to the promotion of polo in Canada, and to developing and maintaining standards of excellence for the sport nationwide.  We look forward to working with all of our member Polo Clubs in the upcoming year.

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Cam Clark, our retiring President, and Sue Bird, our retiring Administrator, for their work and support of Polo Canada during their tenure.

Yours Truly,

Don Pennycook

President, The Canadian Polo Association
